You can find a copy of msconfig.exe from Windows XP and copy that into your system32 
folder, and then type msconfig from the run prompt.  Or you can edit the run keys. 
Go to start>run type in regedit. HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run

Delete everything you don't need from that key.
