First check c:\programme files\iomega\ and see if the folder exists. if not you may
be able to get rid of that link with checklinks.exe In windows 98 its part of the
win98 resource kit. this is an optional bit of windows which may not be loaded on
your pc. the best thing is to fist do a search for checklinks.exe if its not on your
pc it'll be on the win98 cd. open the cd in explorer and look for the folder called
"reskit" (e.g. on my disc it is under [cd drive letter]:tools\reskit) In there click
on setup.exe and install it all. (make sure you ONLY use the setup.exe in THIS folder
and check what you are installing you do not want to reinstall windows98!) A link
to the "windows resource kit" will appear in under start and under this will be one
to "tools management console". open it then open the folder called "win'98 res' kit'
tools sampler" and under tools a-z will be checklinks. run it and delete your dead
links. loads will come up and i have never had any problems going with select all,
delete. This is much simpler than it all sounds really.I've no idea about win95/me/2000
but checklinks will surely be in them somewhere.
As for getting rid of the pop up i don't know, it may help, you may need to reboot
to notice a difference in the list under add/remove. If not, search for folders called
startup. You will have more than one if you have any logon paswords etc set up. I'd
go through each one looking for shortcuts called anything similar to "launch....
CD" or ".... startup disc". If you find any double click and see if you are prompted
to insert the win98 cd rather than the one named on the link. In my case there was
one called something like "launch iomegaware installation CD" and when activated
it asked for the win98 CD instead. Once i'd got rid of it the popup never came back.
goodluck
