Presently I'm not dual booting this system (I have in the past) and here's a copy
of my boot.ini which is the file you will need to edit. [boot loader]
timeout=30
default=multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINNT
[operating systems]
multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINNT="Microsoft Windows 2000 Professional" /fastdetect I
have 2000 installed on my C: drive. You don't mention where you have 2000 installed
but if you pay attention to the ARC path you will see I have mine installed on disk(0)partition(1)
If you have your 2000 installed on the C: drive of your first hard disk, you will
want yours to look the same. If you have 2000 installed on the 2nd partition yours
should read disk(0)partition(2) For some strange reason Microsoft starts
counting disks at 0 and partitions at 1 so I'm sure you can figure it out. The boot.ini
file is a hidden file on your system partition (should be the first partition on
the first hard disk)
If that seems like too much work you can set it to
default to 2000 and reduce the wait time to 1 second. Just open your System Properties
and click on the Advanced tab >> Startup and Recovery and make the necessary change
there.
