When logging onto a domain, prior to reaching the login window, your PC loads
any/all scripts & policies that apply to the machine itself. Upon logging it, it
then applies any/all scripts & policies that apply to the user. If you have set
up a roaming profile and haven't in fact enabled folder redirection in a GPO then
you will be copying files you don't need to across the network as well as the ones
you do need. From the sounds of it, you've got scripts and/or policies applying
to both the machine and user, and that's what is making your logon so slow.
