Environment space in command window

Even though I have have added /e:12288 to the ComSpec line to increase the environment space I still keep getting an out of environment space message when running some DOS programs. W2K seems to have a hell of a lot of environment variables itself and whatever I do doesn't seem to create any space for me. Any suggestions?
