In the same place as where you defined the default folder view?
Tools -> Folder Options - > View (tab)
in the "Advanced Setting" tree widget read down to the option
"Remember each folder's view setting"
Check this option
Press the Apply or OK button.
Now when you change the view setting in a folder they will be remembered.
