I am reading with interest, first this link will give you your MS RAMDRIVE.exe
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;EN-US;q257405
Please follow these instructions;
Installation:
1. Back up your registry The following instructions are for Win XP / 2000.
2. Open Control Panel and choose Add Hardware. Choose 'Yes, I've already installed';
choose 'Add a new device'; choose 'Install the hardware from a list'; choose 'Show
all'; choose 'Standard system devices'; click 'Have disk'. On the next screen where
it says, 'Copy manufacturer's files from:' browse until you find the directory where
you installed Ramdsk.exe; choose Ramdisk.inf and click 'OK.'
3. Re-boot and verify that your Ramdisk Z:\ exists. It will be only 1 MB in size,
but that's not a problem; when you install the registry script it will be increased
to 30 MB. Now, if you wish to assign your temporary files to the Ramdisk, go to
Control Panel, System, Advanced, Environment Variables. In System Variables and
in User Variables, change TMP and TEMP to point at a Temporary directory on the Ramdrive
(e.g., Z:\Temp).
Secondly, I have been programming for several years now in C++ and Oracle and I can
say that when you purchased your Windows of 98 or 2000/xp you will find the readme.txt
which will out line memory utilisation. 98 *.txt clearly states optimum 128mb (it
will see no further) and Win2000 / XP up to 4 gig. Correct me if I am wrong. As Windows
foundation is C procedural then you would have heard of Stack and Heap memory. You
can increase your page file in Win98 above 128mb but it will take it from your HD.
How ever this will not increase performance over 128mb in Ram, here is Lazarus's
point.
