Unlike win 95/98/me, win2k and xp are not based on dos, they're based on microsoft NT (new technology). DOS was the original, very basic operating system - and microsoft decided to make it more user friendly by bastardising it with their own crap - the result was windows. NT was a completely new operating system void of all dos, as dos is very old and basic, and became the slow point for windows. Hence, if you did a clean install of win2k, then you won't have any version of dos installed. You can still get a copy of dos, and install it later though. If you did an upgrade from 95/98/me, then the original copy of DOS that was originally there should still be there. If you do have a version of dos installed, win2k sees it as another operating system, and you now have a dual boot computer - you have to choose which system (win2k or dos) you want to boot from each time the computer starts up. phil d
