Hi Eric
I also had this problem. Basically, it's caused by uninstalling Nortons AntiVirus.
Do you recall doing that prior to your default beep sound event going missing?
It appears the Nortons uninstaller deletes this sound event from the registry.
It's a very annoying bug, but I have no way of contacting Nortons to let them know
about it.
