What do ya know, after 6 hours (all night) of trying everything else, this works! You need to follow it EXACTLY though, like at the very last step uncheck the show icons with all possible colors, clicking apply, then checking it again and clicking apply. Thanks for the solution, i did a number of other things including reinstalling my video drivers a number of times with a number of different versions, reinstalling my videocard after disabling it in hardware manager, reinstalling SP2, reinstalling IE 6 and patches, deleying the entire WindowMetrics key out of the registry, only changing the "Shell Icon BPP" value, i tried 4/8/16/24/32 etc. etc. etc. nothing worked until now! I knew i had probably found the solution when I saw everyone was using Windows 2000 (SP2) and had recently used netmeeting (as I had). Thanks again for the solution, i was seriously considering backing up my 40GB, formatting and reinstalling Win2000... saved me from a bigger headache!
