Another question about 'Use True-Color Icons'

Is it possible that my computer no longer contains the icons of higher resolution?
It seems so strange that everything else on my computer is shown in such a high
resolution but yet my desktop icons, along with explorer icons (icons in general)
do not display correctly. It seems odd and highly unlikely that the higher resolutioned
icons could have been erased, however I wonder if anyone knows the likelyhood of
this? Thanks.
