I have the same problem with Windows XP. I have 2 workstations that exibit the svchost going to 80% to 100% of CPU usage. In their case the common factor is an SQL anywhere client and Norton Corp AV 7.6. When attempting to isolate items in the svchost, I was unable to shutdown the XP terminal services, (Which comes installed by default). I have since disabled the terminal services, but I still have the problem. Next option is to disable one by one the processes in the svchost. Let you know what happens.
