Try Clicking start/programs/accessories/entertainment/volume control.
Click options and properties.
Be sure all desired check boxes are selected.
RealPlayer reset these on my 2000 machine as a way of flipping me off when I unstalled
their once-useful-utility-turned-viral-spyware.
