Internet Explorer Problem

I have just encountered a new problem with IE. I cannot close the windows by pressing
the [x] button. Nothing happens. I have tried various virus scanners, cleaners,
trojan cleaners and ad cleaners. I have even loaded ie6, because I thought something
was corrupt with 5.5. Still...same problem...I'm running 2000.
Please help.
