ms word error

i have two computers networked. i'm running word 97 on win 2000 on one, the other
has word 2000. when i try to open word 97 while the two computers are not networked
(ie. the cable is unplugged, or the computer with word 2000 is turned off) word 97
will open, and then a couple seconds later give me an error saying that winword.exe
has generated errors and will be closed by windows. however, when both computers
are on, everything seems to work fine. any suggestions on what to look for or how
to solve this problem?
