Hello,
i have upgraded our small network from Win98SE to W2K. I have also added a new XP
Pro to the network. Things have gone wrong now, any help will be greatly appreciated.
I have three machines on the network (2 2000s and 1XP Pro).
I also have ICS installed on the netwrok, where one of the 2000 machines is the host.
I have setup this peer2peer network, but i cannot 'see' any of the machines from
the ICS host machine. The LAN networking between the other two (remaing 2000 and
the XP) seems to work fine, i can share files/printer and access the other PC. map
drives, etc.
The ICS also works on all the machines so i can access the internet with no problems
on all the machines. The problem is the ICS Host seems to be excluded from the network/LAN.
If i browse the network all i see if the host computer. I wont 'see' the other
2000 or XP. And same is true if i browse from XP/other 2000, i can see both of these
but not ICS Host.
The ICS is set on the USB DSL modem and uses TCP/IP. So i believe one NIC is sufficient.
The LAN connection on ICS host has printer/file sharing enbabled, Client for MS Network
and also has the TCP/IP protocol. [is it necessary to add/bind NETBEUI?] When i
do add netbeui i can sometime see the network from ICS Host PC [via browse entire
network] tho it disappears after a few minutes and i am left with no LAN again.
I am thinking something along the lines of the XP giving out different address/master
browser interfering, etc. Tho i am not too sure. Maybe some tussling over which
is 'master'. [sorry i m not too knowledgable with networking]
If anyone knows how (ideally) i should have this setup which protocols i would need
and the settings i need to have.
The ICS host has the following IP address: 192.168.0.1. Subset mask: 255.255.255.0.
WINS gateway is blank.
NETBIOS over TCP/IP is enabled on all the machines.
LMHosts Lookup is enabled.
On the XP is configured to obtain IP and DNS automatically.
Any ideas anyone???
Cheers
Glenn
