I'm not sure about Win2k, but in XP try deleting the following file: c:\Documents
and Settings\[username]\Local Settings\History\History.IE5\index.dat from a DOS command
window.
If Windows complains about the file being in use, you'll need to kill EXPLORER.EXE
from the running tasks and then delete the file... of course you'll have to physically
press your computers power button afterwards.
Don't bother trying to get at the file from Windows Explorer as you'll just get the
special folder view (History for Today, Yesterday, etc.) and index.dat isn't touched
when clearing those entries... same goes for clearing the history in IE.
Enjoy!
