Open the Start Menu and pick Settings->Control Panel 2. Double-click on Administrative Tools 3. Double-click on Services 4. Find the Messenger service in this list 5. Double-click on Messenger 6. Click on Stop 7. Change Start Up type to Manual 8. Click OK And you will never be bothered by another messenger pop-up. Of course it won't have any effect on all the internet explorer pop-ups we're plagued with these days...
