Hi,
I've spent all day on this after I "upgraded" to the slower IE 6 from IE 5. Really
pissed me off...
Two ways to do this...
1) Control Panel -> Automatic Updates -- uncheck
Keep my computer up to date. At top of dialog.
This removes the tray icon.
2) Control Panel -> Administrative tools -> Services --
Highlight Automatic updates and right click on Properties. The Strartup type: Pulldown
has Automatic, Manual, Disabled. I set it to disabled.
If you notice the path to the executible it will be:
C:\WINNT\system32\svchost.exe -k wugroup
All and all, this is pretty slimey on MS's part -- to be expected I guess.
Probably could find it in the Services key somewhere in the registry...
