I know that this is an old post but for those that are now just finding this to be
a problem. There is a bug in the parallel port for win2k. It was fixed with win2k
service pack 2 for those that have the older version. There is dialog for this
problem at the microsoft web site http://support.microsoft.com and do a search for
"direct cable connection"
