I even experience a stranger situation: I have a properly booting Windows XP. Just, I deleted a partition (which went all fine) and now I would like to allocate the unused space partially to my existing data partition and partially to a new partition. Now, partition magic tells me error 1516, blablabla, you know what. I tried booting into Linux (to be exact, Knoppix) and mounted the partitions there, all ok, unmounted them explicitly, also fine. Restarted Partition Magic... nope, error 1516. Still, Windows XP is properly booting up and running. Ok, tried the check disk thing, waited for about an hour (it's a large disk ;-)). Check disk said there were some fixes to the file tables, so I was optimistic... Too early though, still PM tells me that the partitions aren't properly unmounted... I don't quite get it...
