Programs Crash in Win 2000

I'm running win 2000 pro on an Athlon 1.4 Ghz. When I have had my computer on for
a while, I start to have problems. Anytime I try to open a new program, especially
internet explorer, the program starts up for a second and then completely dissapears.
It isn't listed in my task manager either. Does anyone have any ideas?
