Cannot use win2K search feature

OK. I cannot find anything about this problem. When I click start-search-files and
folders. Nothing happens. No beep, no error, now window comes up- nothing. If I right
click on a drive and try to search nothing happens. If I use explorer to search,
nothing happens.
But if I launch my computer or another folder window and use the search icon in the
title bar, it works just fine.
All I have running is virus scan, and a firewall. It was working just fine and then
stopped. I am unsure why though or how long ago it stopped. I used to have tweakui,
but deleted it long ago. I have tried the sfc /scannow option and it still doesn't
work, and I have tried the fast repair opion with the cd.
So does anyone know the only place I can search from is from the menu bar of an open
window??? Is there a file I am missing now or something or is this an easy problem?
I am also not on a network, this is a standalone and I have full priviledges. I tried
just out of curiosity using the Admin account and another user account I have on
this, and the results are the same.
Thanks for any help you have. I also have all the latest service packs installed
and updates, and have done two virus scans twice to just make sure.
