I run all my DOS games from bootable win98 CDs. This avoids all compatibility problems with win2000's CMD. Alternatively, though less conveniently, you could boot from a 98 or similar floppy (not forgetting real-mode cd-rom drivers). If you don't have system files for any other dos or win version, download a boot disk image from bootdisk.com.
