I've found this thread when doing a search on "function: DrvConvertDevMode" (from
the dr watson log) because i had a problem with Word and Illustrator that had symptoms
as described before.
The not-connected printer made a lot of sense and a workaround solution that seems
to work is this:
In services you set "Print spooler" service to Manual (is probably on Automatic)
Then you stop the service.
Or alternatively if the printer isn't present go to a command prompt and type:
net stop "print spooler"
Or if the network printer is present start the spooler service again with:
net start "print spooler"
You can use your programs without them crashing while the spooler service is stopped.
