I had the same problem after reloading windows after a crash. I went to www.microsoft.com
and searched for and found a windows update for the driver sound card driver. Now
you want to go to the system folder, device manager, and right click and delete the
multimedia or sound video and game controller. When you restart windows it will
prompt you, "new hardware found" search for drivers for this device. Click the box
which appears as "windows updates" and it will automatically load. It did for me,
(after two hours trying to figure out what was wrong, before I went to Microsofts
update). I hope this will solve your problem.
