Gotta agree with DEX. Something wants something. I would uninstall the new card,
take it out of the machine, put the old one back in, install drivers for it, look
and see if the "PCI device" is gone (if it is still there you may have zapped A MB
driver of some sort), turn off machine, replace with the new card, when you reboot
cancel the wizard if it shows up and install from vid driver disk. This is why I
suggest that: A friend brought me a baby AT to refurbish. The PCMCIA modem was
hosed. So I uninstalled it from Device Mgr and removed it. No problem. Not knowing
or caring if it was the card or the controller I put in a $5 PCI modem. That worked
but I still had a "PCI simple communications controller" wanting to be installed
on startup. There is NO help for this on the web!! W2k couldn't figure out what
device this was. After 10 guesses I got lucky. It was the PCMCIA modem driver I
had removed. Must have had the controller attached to it. I installed it like the
card was still there. I don't have the machine to check, but as I recall the yellow
! went away and no extra modem showed up. Very weird. Unlike DEX some of us still
have to use IIP (incense, incantation and prayer) to deal with the vageries and vicissitudes
of living in Bill Gates world.
