It could be that the RPC stack is being corrupted and bringing the spool service down. If you are on dialup, its possible to download only the needed patches, but in all honesty you would be better off grabbing the lot. Start IE --> Tools --> Windows Update Just follow the onscreen instructions when you get there. If your on dialup, post back your service pack level and I'll find the links to the relevant patches.
