Quicklaunch in wrong location/order.

I have windows 2000pro, my problem is that my quick launch goes everywhere except
where it was originaly.
I'm use to it being right beside the Start button followed by my Links, now it seems
that there's a slider beside the Start and beside that there is an empty space followed
by my quick launch slider and icons, then by my links slider and it's icons.
In other words, there's a slider and empty spot before my quick launch's slider and
icons which shouldn't be there. I can put my quick launch before or after the links
but not beside the start. I've tried everything to delete this slider and emty space.
I've removed both ticks (quick launch,links) from the menu and rebooted but didn't
help. I've also tried stretching the toolbars and moving it about but didn't help
either.
I've tried my best to explain my situation, hope you do... lol
