Jeff,
CLick on the link in my signature and it will take you to a site that has the install
procedure listed. The reason you could not format the drive is because you tried
to format your C: drive while inside of Windows. In that respect, Windows is smarter
than the user and will not commit suicide so to speak. If you want to format your
system drive, you must, and always have had to, format it from outside of the Operating
system.
Clean Install XP
