It's true, It's always best to reinstall the programs and it can be a pain but when 
you take shortcuts, almost always will give you errors ,the data files should be 
fine to move over most of the time like jpgs,docs,address book(using inport) mp3,etc. 
the reg file runs the machine and it can be corrupted with just one wrong item....or 
bad call....
