I'm running Windows 2000 Professional. I have been completely taken over by some sort of spyware. My screen is locked on a red background with a big black box in the center of the screen with a "Warning Spyware" message and a link (which does not work) to where anti-spyware software can be purchased. I cannot log onto the Internet as my IE icon does not function any longer. I have ran Adaware and a second spyware cleaner which have quarantined some 200 suspect files. I'm still locked out of W2K. When the system is operating properly, I have about 21 applications going. Now I have almost 60 and it's eating all my available memory. Am I looking at formatting my hard drive and reinstalling everything or is there something else I can try?
