1. I have tried doing everything to firewall, even putting the whole thing down,
with no results.
2. Yes it connects, I am actually writing this on the computer in question. What
comes to changing the cable, I am not sure if it is going to help: the other computer
after all recognizes the cable -- and the situation doesn't change if I switch the
cable-heads between the computers. And yes, if I can't solve the problem any other
way, I will eventually try hub.
3. When I use ipconfig on a computer not recognizing the cable, the only information
I get is "Media state: cable disconnected". Am I missing some basic thing here? What
do you mean by 'is local connection ENABLED'?
