If you have a router or NAT software like wingate or winroute and have un-checked the option in IE to detect network settings automatically (in LAN settings /advanced ) you will get the 0x80072EE2 error. I really don't know why, but MS hints it has something to do with proxy settings... Check that box and live happily everafter :-) YES you do have to wait an extra second or so when IE starts but so what...
