I use windows 2000. And I had a similar problwm with Word and Excel.
finally, I found out that the problem was that the registry file of my account was
corrupted. For each account in windows 2000, there is a file called "ntuser.dat"
that contains the registry settings for that account. Those settings are what you
see under "HKEY_CURRENT_USER" in the registry editor.
that file exists under the account profile directory (like C:\documents and settings\account
name)
I suggest that you first make sure that it's really that file that causes the problem.
You may try to login using another account, and if the problem disapprears, then
it's most likely that problem as I described earlier.
To overcome this problem, you can try any of the following:
1- create a new windows account and use it (easiest solution)
2- replace the ntuser.dat file with a good one from another account
Note, that if you replace the ntuser.dat file, you will lose alot of customization
in your account (like wallpaper, mouse speed, and so on). But there is a trick!.
Before replacing the file, export the "HKEY_CURRENT_USER" branch of the registry,
then replace the file, then import it again. Most probably, import will fail at some
point (remember it's corrupted!), but it will recover alot of you setting (better
than losing all of them!)
Note that you can't replace the ntuser.dat file for ACCOUNT_1 while logged in with
the same ACCOUNT_1. You have to login using ACCOUNT_2 to replace the file for ACCOUNT_1.
hope it helps!
