I would purchase an external CD Burner (CD-RW) possibly from Lenovo, http://www.lenovo.com/us/en
, as they are agents for IBM Thinkpads.
Then you can make a drive image of the current installation so that you don't lose
it. Then update to SP4 and then add the Office programs.

Partitioning the drive is something to think about too, as is, possibly, fitting
more RAM for todays demanding programs.
What are the current system specifications? Is it a 20 or 30 GB drive, which processor
is fitted and how much RAM is fitted?
