Think long and hard about replacing the CPU,most laptops have very proprietary hardware..
You can get a 700 mhz machine for a 100 bucks with win2k installed. (see link below)
Most CPU's work or they don't work,they do get HOT and break down but I would look
at the ram or the HD real hard b/4 replacing the CPU right off.

"how do you install a processor " = it not as easy as a Desktop,you will need to
take it all the way down to get to it.
You can download a service manual and it will take you from step 1 to the end. (PDF
File)
It's about a 2 hour job,if you are in a good with hands,if not don't take it on,
many of the screws are 256,440 thr.size that's like a paper clip with thrs.
And the tools must fit just right you don't get a 2nd chance if you strip them.
Been thier done that and you can't find new ones.
