Try this
Do it one more time but this time tell windows to apply the new setting without reboot.
If it still will not stick download a updated driver for your video card and use 
it to update your drivers then try it.

You can use the System info or aida32 to find out what brand and model number your 
video card is and then use that info to get the right driver for win2k.

aida32=http://www.majorgeeks.com/download183.html
driverguide.com is a good spot to get the drivers from.
