ZoneAlrm is free or to say you can get the free ver.
It works but without all the bells and tools of the pay for ver.
But do take the time to view the Demo at OutPost web site.
symantic antivirus is not a firewall :>)
Also turn off the message service in win2k it's a side door into win2k that many
use to get into your PC without your Ok.
Definitions of Firewall
A system designed to prevent unauthorized access to or from a private
network.
Firewalls can be implemented in both hardware and software, or a combination
of both.
Firewalls are frequently used to prevent unauthorized Internet users from
accessing private networks connected to the Internet, especially intranets.
All messages entering or leaving the Intranet pass through the firewall,
which examines each message and blocks those that do not meet the specified
security criteria.
The name "firewall" derives from the term for a barrier that prevents fires
from spreading. A computer "firewall" is a barrier between your computer and
the outside world.
Just like a fire is most likely to spread through open doors in a building,
your computer is most vulnerable at its ports (the doors). Without ports you
could not go on the Internet or let Internet traffic enter your computer.
