OE is default in tools, but acts like Outlook is default

After doing some extensive Office updates last week (I had assumed that they were
automatic with WIN Updates, but realized that they had not been automatic until I
manually updated Office to a certain point), Outlook Express would not show as an
option for default e-mail program in Internet Options. From this thread: http://www.annoyances.org/exec/forum/winme/1120071914,
I found how to re-register it - and that worked - for that day.
I shut my computer down for the weekend, and lo and behold, after I rebooted today,
when sending IE page as e-mail, it goes into an Outlook setup wizard.
I pull up Internet Options, thinking I'm simply going to have to reset OE as the
default - piece of cake, eh? *But* it still shows OE as the default.
I re-did the registration again, but no change (OE shows as default, but it puts
me into Outlook when trying to send e-mail from IE).
I also downloaded and ran OE Repair - still no joy.
Ideas?
TIA!
