W2000 Does not see my USB drive

Just purchased a "NEWlink" USB to IDE adapter. I have installed a 120GB drive in
the unit, the drive is formatted NTFS and works fine attached directly to the PC.
However, W2K does not "see" the unit when I plug in the USB cable, and the only
install sw included is for W98. The unit has an external power supply, and seems
to power up - at least the drive spins & the light comes on. Is there any way to
force W2K to access it, or can anyone suggest any diagnostics that I can run? It
might just be that the unit is faulty, I suppose. BTW, I have tried this with known
good cable and USB port.
Thanks!
