Thanks, very useful post.
Didn't understand the bit about "Enhanced Hub Controller" but I did check out the
links you sent. While hunting around yesterday before posting I think I noticed

...but discarded it as not relevant as it seemed to be related to speed which wasn't
my problem! The last bit of advice in this post - take out all USB devices, remove
all drivers and reboot - seems to have been the cure for my problem; though it might
have also been size related as the first time after reboot I plugged my adapter in
with a 20GB drive. Anyway, my 120GB is now in the adapter and recognised fine.
In case it is useful to anyone else, I was already at SP4 with all applicable updates.
