Can't get "My Documents" folder back

Hi. My "My Documents" folder is missing from my desktop. I have looked through the
web and followed the obvious solution of checking "Show My Documents on the Desktop"
in Tools -> Folder Options -> View but it is still not showing. I have tried all
the obvious stuff but nothing seems to work.
I have also noticed that when I open or save documents in Windows applications, the
"My Documents" folder is not available for selection.
I have already searched this forum to see if anyone else has had this problem but
nothing came up. If anyone can help shed some light on my problem it would be great.
