Configuring large external hard drive

Hi - I've got a new 250GB EXTERNAL HD (USB2 and firewire, I'll be using it on firewire)
on the way to me, and have just found out via other posts in this forum that W2000
may have trouble recognising such a large disk.

After reading up a bit, I've added the EnableBigLba line to my registry, but am unsure
as to whether I should format the new drive in FAT32 or NTFS? I'm assuming that my
internal 20GB HD is formatted in NTFS, but don't know how to find out for sure...my
system is 5.00.2195, Service Pack 4.

I would much prefer to use the external disk as a single partitioned drive if possible,
purely for backup of large files, photos etc.

I don't want to make a hash of the formatting, so advice from the old pros would
be welcome, thanks. John
