without any background - other than couldn't run disk defrag (btw - why would you
want to - assuming ntfs filestore, it will make minimal difference to performance
and can often cause problems) - its difficult to advise here.
Is it a real 2k server (ie, running a domain with lots of workstations) or just your
PC running server?
You could try a repair reinstall:-

Have you added/removed any hardware? If you suspect one of the drives, and its not
the system drive, disconnect it and try booting without it. Extend this - disconnect
any hardware not essential to boot and try booting again. If > 1 stick of RAM, try
with each on its own (all methods of identifying troublesome hardware).
