Well, I still think it's timing. Did you try changing the timeout that you have in
the registry?
Apparently it is the laptop Windows XP that is slow to respond. You could try things
that would make it respond quickly to network requests, but it is unlikely you'll
find any way to do that.
The changes needed to the Windows 2000 registry are rather simple. Here is some
text I copied from another web site and a link to it below.
System Key: [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Services\VxD\MSTCP] to the
Value Name: LmhostsTimeout
Data Type: REG_SZ (String Value)
Value Data: Time in milliseconds (Default = 10,000)
