Update: As suggested, I have tried changing the value of lmhoststimeout using decimal
6000 (default), 8000, 12000, 16000, 50000, 100000, 100000000, 1000000000, and the
max 0xffffffff. No effect up to the last two values which slowed down all system
response, and had the strange effect of wrecking the use of NET VIEW with a "too
many connections" error. This took over an hour with all the re-boots needed, on
both sides. So, it looks like I'm stuck. I hate M$.
