The most infuriating Windows platform!

I am using Win2k Pro. It has to be the most infuriating OS i've ever used! It's
impossible to recover and get the machine to boot when you get an error. To top
it off, i lost my installation CD. I looked on bootdisk.com and found the 4-floppy
installation disks, but it's NOT the cd, and you do need the cd to be able to fully
attempt a recovery. Plus, it takes FOREVER to load the floppies, almost 10 minutes!
Why couldn't microsoft include a DOS? If you need a file from the drive, you have
to somehow, someway, get things to work, or you can't get the file. You can't salvage
the files on the drive, even if the OS doesn't boot, like in win95/98.
I have spent like 30 hours, that's 10 hours a day, the last three days, trying to
get the drive to boot. I've been on numerous websites.
The most ridiculous thing about it is, even if you have the installation cd, you
can't install over the current installation without it wiping the old installation
from the drive. It will be a fresh install.
I will get XP in a week from now, which i shoulda got years ago! THAT's a good OS!
Now, my big question is. CAN I install XP over this installation, where it will
keep the software and stuff i have currently on the drive, or will xp wipe out everything
too?
