If you think W2K is bad, you never worked with it's predecessor, NT 3 and 4. XP
Pro "IS" W2K but with some updates and a prettier GUI, but it is still W2K. XP Home
is a watered down XP Pro designed for the home user. W2K was intended for businesses
who hopefully have an IT admin experienced in setting up it's (advanced) security
options and permissions. W2K was not intended for consumer use and as such, is more
complictated to set up and run, depending on the needs of the environment, the user
and security. It's still easier than setting up a Unix system, or even Linux, if
you want similar security and those systems have their own quirks too... NT isn't
alone in that!! Either way, you can't expect it to be Win 9X because it isn't, never
was, never will be, and for good reaon! ;-)
While the NT file system can be recovered and the install fixed, it takes a different
experience level, knowledge and tools, but it isn't impossible. You just have to
learn different procedures and tools, and update your knowledge of the operating
system you are working on..
