Hi

I have Windows 2000 SP4 with all updates applied, for some reason when any shortcuts
are placed on the dekstop, they are covered with a text file icon.

The correct shortcut icon can be seen beneath the text file icon, but deleting one
deletes the other.

Having done some searching, I have found threads regarding 'duplicate icons on the
desktop' - I checked the registry, and all settings were as they should be:

In: HKEY_CURRENT_USER \ Software \ Microsoft \ Windows \ CurrentVersion \ Explorer
\ User Shell Folders

I checked & Desktop was set to %USERPROFILE%\Desktop

and in: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE \ SOFTWARE \ Microsoft \ Windows \ CurrentVersion \ Explorer
\ User Shell Folders

I checked & Common Desktop was set to %ALLUSERSPROFILE%\Desktop

It has been mentioned that the new graphics card &/or drivers could have caused this,
however, the problem didnt arise until a few days after everthing was installed.

Can anyone else shed any light on this? Any help/info would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance
